Cook County News Herald Advertising Design
When I wasn't writing about the new bakery that opened in town or covering the monthly Economic Development Authority meeting, I was hunkered down designing ads. At the Cook County News-Herald (Grand Marais' weekly newspaper) I earned my chops, both in reporting and graphic design.
My job: Ad design and layout, page design and layout. From 2007 to 2008 I designed all the ads that ran in the paper.
Challenges: Giving each ad a fresh, relevant look based on the content. Advertisers ranged from the local hardware store to the annual Lundie Home Tour.
Perks: The supermarket's meat department sale information, which was scrawled on butcher paper and hand-delivered by Marlowe, the butcher, every week.
